Boneal, Inc. Recognized by United States Postal Service with "2000 Quality Supplier Award"

Means, Kentucky United States Postmaster General William J. Henderson recently recognized Boneal, Inc. with the 2000 Quality Supplier Award (QSA) for the Small Business - Manufacturing category. In a ceremonial awards presentation at Postal Headquarters in Washington Postmaster Henderson noted, "QSA winning companies provide the very best from tools to equipment to materials to services and have enabled postal employees to deliver record service to Americans once again". Keith Strange, Postal Service Vice President of Purchasing and Materials added in a USPS Press Release, "QSA winning suppliers clearly demonstrated to postal teams their intent to delight customers and to continuously improve products and services. These vendors have process management and control mechanisms in place which ensure consistent, high quality service over time".

QSA nominees go through a rigorous seven (7) step evaluation that mirrors the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award process. A team of postal evaluators first assesses a comprehensive written application. Selected finalists receive an on-site visit and intensive business system audit. Areas evaluated include customer satisfaction, quality systems, supplier improvement initiatives, on-time performance, contract management and administration, human resource development, community involvement, and social responsibility. Numerous background searches and interviews with internal postal customers follow. Final award decisions are made by Postal executives in Washington.

In receiving the award, Boneal President, Dr. Keith Gannon stated, "This national award from the United States Postal Service is a wonderful honor for Boneal. It is a true validation of our Manufacturing Solutions business model and clearly recognizes our emphasis on partnership and agility as a leading manufacturer in today's dynamic marketplace".

To put the award in context, the U. S. Postal Service is a $64 billion per year business with over 30,000 suppliers. It is the nations largest civilian employer with more than 765,000 employees, and if a private company, would be the tenth largest in the United States. During fiscal year 1999 the USPS awarded over 64,000 contracts worth more than $9.1 billion dollars. Only eighty (80) QSA awards have been given since inception of the QSA program a decade ago. Past winners include Compaq Computer, Marriott International, The Gallup Organization and Digital Equipment.

Boneal, Inc. is an ISO9002/QS9000 certified manufacturer that provides Manufacturing Solutions to a broad range of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and government agencies. The company assumes sole responsibility for projects at any point in the manufacturing process and is able to quickly direct projects to high volume production. The company also specializes in precision sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, custom injection molding, machining, and mechanical assembly. For the USPS specifically, Boneal has provided dozens of manufactured components and sub-assemblies for high-speed mail handling equipment.
