Boneal, Inc., National Finalist for United States Postal Service Supplier Quality Award

Means, Kentucky Boneal, Inc. Corporate Office was notified by the United States Postal Service on March 9 that the company has been recognized as a finalist in national competition for the 2000 USPS Supplier Quality Award. Each year the USPS publicly recognizes suppliers who have consistently provided outstanding products and services. Three primary categories are recognized - Manufacturing, Operational Services and Professional/ Consultant Services. Past winners include Compaq Computer, Marriott International, Digital Equipment and Siemens Corporation.

A team of assessors from the USPS Headquarters in Washington D.C. visited Boneal on March 12, 2000 and completed a comprehensive assessment aligned with the Quality Award Criteria. Those areas reviewed included customer satisfaction, quality systems, supplier improvement initiatives, on-time performance, contract management and administration, human resource development community involvement and social responsibility.

The comprehensive application for the award was prepared and submitted by Boneal on February 7, 2000. Preparation of the document required an intense and very focused attention to detail and was accomplished via a cross-functional team effort, which involved numerous Boneal employees and staff.

Mr. C.J. Bailey, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Boneal, upon hearing the company was among an elite few to reach the finalist stage, said, "This is big, not only for Boneal, but for our community and the state of Kentucky. It's definitely a measure of excellence for Eastern Kentucky, that manufacturing with the highest standards exist here and thus leads the way for others to follow."

Boneal, Inc. was founded in 1980 and is a contract manufacturer that specializes in assuming full responsibility for outsourced projects from original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) and government agencies (GA's). In addition, the company was recently notified by the American Quality Assessors that the company had been registered as a ISO 9002/Q9000 certified company with a scope of Precision Metal Fabrication and Machining, Electro-Mechanical Assembly, Plastic Fabrication and Powder Paint Finishing.

The U.S. Postal Service is a $50 billion dollar a year business. It is the nation's largest civilian employer with more than 765,000 career employees. If the U.S. Postal Service were a private company, it would be the tenth largest in the United States.

The 2000 USPS Quality Supplier Award winners are to be notified by mid May, 2000.
