Boneal, Inc. Recognized by United States Postal Service with "2001 Quality Supplier Award"

Washington - Postmaster General William J. Henderson recently recognized Boneal, Inc. of Means, Kentucky along with eight other companies that are considered 'the best of the best' when it comes to supplying employees of the United States Postal Service with the equipment, tools and material they need to maintain their commitment as the gateway to the American household. The 2001 QSA Awards were presented during an afternoon ceremony at the Postal Service headquarters in Washington, DC.

Accepting the award for Boneal was Georgetta Hollon Gannon, Chief Financial Officer. The awards ceremony also included presentations by each winner. Boneal comments were made by Mr. David Ledford, Boneal Chief Operations Officer. Other members of the Boneal management team in attendance included Keith Gannon, President and CEO; Byron Craig, Manufacturing Manager; Mike Potter, Quality Assurance and C.J. Bailey, Marketing & Public Relations.

Keith Strange, Vice President of Purchasing and Materials, USPS, noted that to be eligible for the Quality Supplier Award firms must have earned more than $500,000 during the last fiscal year. QSA nominees go through a rigorous seven (7) step evaluation that mirrors the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award process. A team of postal evaluators first assesses a comprehensive written application. Selected finalists receive an on-site visit and an intensive business system audit. Areas evaluated include customer satisfaction, quality systems, supplier improvement initiatives, on-time performance, contract management and administration, human resource development, community involvement, and social responsibility. Numerous background searches (EPS, OSHA, D&B, etc.) and interviews with internal postal customers follow. Final award decisions are made by Postal executives in Washington.

As part of the printed awards program Dr. Keith Gannon, said, "Boneal is a technically diverse manufacturer for industry and government agencies. We have a long record of helping customers increase profitability. A passion for the long-term well being of the customer drives our company to operate as a seamless extension of each customers business". We are highly honored to receive this award and to be a key supplier to the United States Postal Service. Boneal provides a broad range of components and assemblies for mail sorting equipment to the USPS as well as letter drop units used in Post Offices throughout the United States. I am incredibly proud of the growth, strength and synergy of the Boneal-USPS relationship.

Purchasing supplies and materials is no small task for the USPS. In fiscal year 2000, the Postal Service awarded more than 55,000 contracts exceeding $7.5 billion to over 30,000 suppliers. Of those 30,000 suppliers only nine firms were selected as Quality Supplier Award winners.

"The winning companies clearly demonstrated to the postal review teams their desire to exceed expectations", said Strange. "These vendors have systems in place that consistently provide our organization with high quality services and materials. It's a consistency we at the USPS experience each and every day we work together".

Other companies receiving 2001 Quality Supplier Awards included High Country Chemical Supplies, Inc. of Denver, Colorado; General Technology, Inc. of Newport Beach, California; Light Corporation of Grand Haven, Michigan; Roadway Express, Inc. of Akron, Ohio; Transport International Pool, Inc. of Devon, Pennsylvania; PRC Inc. a Logicon/Northrop Grumman of McLean, Virginia and Compaq Computer Corporation of Greenbelt, Maryland.

Boneal, Inc. is an ISO9002/QS9000 certified manufacturer that provides Manufacturing Solutions to a broad range of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and government agencies.
