Research and Development Produces
More Robust Mail Collection Equipment.

Customer:
United States Postal Service

Customer Need:
A prime contractor to manufacture a newer, more robust generation of outdoor mail collection equipment to stringent durability standards.

Project Summary:
Boneal utilized its depth of experience in research and development, engineering, assembly, tooling and manufacturing. Boneal’s Engineering Design Team spent two years developing and testing a finish system that vastly improved the durability of this product.

Result Summary:
The United States Postal Service certified Boneal’s mail chute during an on-site visit in October 2003. The new chute is vandalism resistant and extremely weather-retardant. Boneal's primary strength is contributing to the bottom line of our customers, and that was achieved in this project. The technologies Boneal forged could save the Postal Service millions of dollars in annual maintenance costs if they are applied to all of its outdoor mail collection equipment.

Congressman Hal Rogers inspects a mail chute at Boneal's manufacturing facility.
Congressman Hal Rogers (KY), left, discusses the innovations Boneal put into the Postal Service’s motorist mail chute with Keith Gannon (CEO-Boneal), center, and David Ledford (President-Boneal). The Congressman toured Boneal to see firsthand how the company designs and builds world class products such as the motorist mail chute.
