Membership in Local, State & National Associations and Civic Groups

Frenchburg/Menifee County Chamber of Commerce.
Boneal has been a member of the Frenchburg/Menifee County Chamber of Commerce since its inception. As a member we participate and support the chamber by our attendance at the meetings and involvement in the various activities. The chamber has just recently constructed a web site, which will allow for all members to link and promote the opportunities for involvement by other businesses.

The first annual dinner meeting for members and friends of the chamber was conducted in February, 2002 and was a major success. To promote and make the community more aware of what the chamber is doing a monthly Prize Drawing has been organized and folks simply stop by the chamber office and register for the monthly prize drawing. Member businesses donate the prizes.

Each fall for the school opening the chamber/members support along with the Menifee County Board of Education, a back to school appreciation breakfast for the teachers. Also during the Christmas season the chamber and members support the downtown decoration of streets and park. The chamber is currently establishing and supporting an office for Tourism in Menifee County.

Kentucky Chamber of Commerce
Boneal, Inc. has been a member of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce for the past several years and involved in some of the statewide collaboration in workforce development. In May, 2000 Boneal Inc. was selected to be the Kentucky Company of the Month by the chamber and was so depicted on the web site along with an illustrative 3-page information layout about our company. This recognition was prior to the USP
Quality Supplier Award which Boneal won and was triggered by the Boneal Press Release noting Boneal to be among the finalist for the award.

Boneal believes that as a member of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce we are staying tuned to the economic concerns and benefits derived from the affiliation with other businesses in the state. Coupled with the membership in our local chambers Boneal realizes the opportunities for its corporate citizenry responsibility and thus, can have an impact on the well being of our community.

Kentucky Industrial Development Council.
Boneal considers many of its initiatives and involvement in the state, regional and local activities to be that of improving the quality of life for the citizenry. Thus, through involvement with the KIDC many new contacts are made, networks of communication with promising or pending activities related to economic development are discovered which broaden Boneal’s entrepreneurial activities and impact for planning new initiatives. We are a member of the Community Planning and Economic Development Committee, which provides technical assistance for groups as requested throughout the state of Kentucky.

As a member of the KIDC Boneal has access for discussions/communicating with the membership who represent government agencies, economic development, chambers of commerce, utility and power companies, private sector businesses and numerous other agencies which play a key role in the day to day economy of Kentucky. This first hand information network is important to Boneal for strategic planning, decisions and implementations of new initiatives pertinent to the growth and development of our company. www.kidc.org

Associated Industries of Kentucky.
Boneal became a member of the Associated Industries of Kentucky early in 2001 following an invitation to attend and participate in their Commonwealth Policy Forum. AIK’s history and mission or purpose was reviewed by the Boneal management team and subsequently an invitation was extended to AIK to visit our corporate offices for a meeting. It was felt by Boneal that an affiliation with AIK would serve our company in several respects, one being that AIK was one of the oldest and most respected professional trade associations in Kentucky and was an advocate for making an impact on the social and economic quality of life in Kentucky. This philosophy closely correlated to the Boneal company concerns for the well being of all our stakeholders as customers, suppliers, investors, employees and community partners.

Boneal’s involvement with local, state and national associations is to provide both information, insight and leadership to those groups and in return make our organization more receptive and perceptive of the potential for successes for our company and all our stakeholders. We believe that our affiliation with AIK makes a positive impact for all concerned.

National Alliance of Business & Boneal’s Ties to the School-to-Careers.
Boneal has been a member of the National Alliance of Business since 1997 and has done so because of our mutual concern about the educational and training needs of our youth and overall workforce. NAB is a strong advocate of the Workforce Investment Act program initiatives and those entities/agencies charged with their implementation and operations throughout the United States.

Boneal’s association and work with the TENCO WIA Youth Council and the Frenchburg Job Corps Academy fits perfectly with the many endeavors in which NAB develops and shares with numerous federal and state agencies as well as the business community.

NAB in conjunction with the National Employer Leadership Council promotes expanding and enhancing employer involvement in school-to-careers. The “Best Practices in School-to-Careers”, a pamphlet publication series sponsored by NAB, NELC, Information Technology Association of America, The Techforce Initiative and Hospitality Business Alliance is illustrative of the information generated and available for secondary schools and programs engaged in youth educational training

Boneal is very interested and active in the educational arena with the public schools and postsecondary institutions, etc. Each year Boneal has provided a co-op position for a senior student as a part of the Menifee County School System Co-Op School to Careers Program.

Historically Boneal was an active participant in the Kentucky School-to-Work Initiative via the Local Labor Market Area #19 School-to-Work Partnership Council. Keith Gannon, Boneal, Inc. served as Chair for a two-year term. During this time, under the guidance and experience of Dr. Gannon, the STW Partnership Council developed a Polymer Processing Injection Molding Curriculum Agreement for courses, training, etc. for Rowan County Senior High School. This was only the second in the state to be directly linked to a cooperative work experience agreement with a manufacturer. This signed agreement was between Rowan County Board of Education, Guardian Automotive Trim, Inc., Morehead State University and Rowan Technical College. This multi partnership agreement was the first in the state of Kentucky.

Southern Economic Development Council.
The Southern Economic Development Council has been in existence since 1946 and today has membership representing thirty-one states and the District of Columbia. Boneal believes that it’s membership in the SEDC since 1999 has given our operation significant insight and information pertaining to the economic climate in which we do business.

Our relationship with members from throughout the southeast provides an instant contact and information for our management team when strategic initiatives are under consideration. Boneal considers the knowledge and perimeters for doing business from the viewpoint of either potential expansion or a new initiative for either inside Kentucky or another geographical location has been gained as a result of our membership.

Boneal has participated in the national annual conferences and finds the information and services available from the association’s headquarters in Atlanta to be quiet helpful. The quarterly newsletter, the annual membership directory, educational materials and communication with council members are some of those services we at Boneal find useful.

Southern Association of Colleges and Employers.
Boneal, over the past several yeas has had co-op students work at our facilities at Means. These co-ops have been both college and high school students. We are a strong supporter of such programs endorsed and supported by all institutions of education. Thus, our membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers has been significant. As a member since 1998 we have seen the opportunities to participate with business and industries, both large and small, which work with students in co-op programs from many colleges and universities.

We at Boneal have worked with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and Kentucky’s State Universities and our local high schools. We have hired some of those co-op students following their completion of their college degrees and have been extremely pleased. We continually look for ways in which our initiatives at Boneal in the educational arena may enhance the co-op programs with which we have been affiliated.

Boneal plans to continue our relationship with SACE and expect to glean new and insightful ideas from our experiences and information from other businesses and our college partners.
